Skin Dullness Remedies
As we age, our skin dulls. There are essential oil natural remedies that can help remedy skin dullness, though.
Here is an essential oil recipe to help with skin dullness followed by study results, in case you’re interested, on “skin brightening” for each of these essential oils used in this recipe.
Brightening Skin Essential Oil Serum Recipe
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of carrier oil (e.g., jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, or argan oil)
2 drops of 100% pure lemon essential oil (made with no chemicals)
2 drops of 100% pure frankincense essential oil (made with no chemicals)
2 drops of 100% pure rosemary essential oil (made with no chemicals)
1 drop of 100% pure tea tree essential oil (optional - for acne-prone skin) (made with no chemicals)
1 small dark glass dropper bottle for storage (You can find on amazon or other online stores). Here’s what 2 oz bottles look like.
Instructions:
Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, mix the carrier oil with the essential oils.
Transfer: Carefully pour the mixture into the dark glass dropper bottle. The dark glass helps protect the oils from light degradation.
Shake: Gently shake the bottle to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
Application: After cleansing your skin, apply a few drops of the serum to your face, gently massaging it in. Use it in the morning and/or evening for the best results.
Patch Test: Before using the serum on your face, perform a patch test on a small area of skin to check for any adverse reactions.
Tips:
Always use sunscreen during the day, especially when using lemon essential oil, as it can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight.
Store the serum in a cool, dark place to maintain its potency.
Keep away from mouth unless they are food grade essential oils.
With consistent use, you should see an improvement in your skin's brightness and overall tone. Enjoy your radiant glow!
In case you are interested in studies done that explored the effects of these essential oils on skin brightness and overall skin health, here are a few noteworthy examples:
Rosemary Oil: A study in the Journal of Medicinal Food (2015) found that rosemary essential oil has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants can help combat free radicals, which contribute to dull skin, potentially leading to a brighter complexion over time.
Lemon Oil: Research published in Photochemistry (2016) indicated that lemon essential oil possesses skin-brightening effects due to its high vitamin C content. The study suggested that topical application of lemon oil could reduce dark spots and improve skin tone.
Frankincense Oil: A clinical trial in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science (2020) showed that frankincense essential oil enhanced skin hydration and elasticity. Better-hydrated skin often appears more radiant and less dull.
Tea Tree Oil: While primarily known for its acne-fighting properties, a study in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment (2017) noted that tea tree oil can help clear blemishes, improving overall skin tone and brightness.
These studies suggest that essential oils can contribute to brighter skin, mostly through their antioxidant and hydrating properties. However, it's essential to dilute them properly and do a patch test to avoid irritation. Always consult a dermatologist for personalized advice!
